Nestled in the foothills of the Hunter Valley, our little town of Laguna has a resident population of 216 “Lagunatics”. Art and culture has always been a part of our valley. Not only in recent times, with the valley being home to many renowned artists such as Paul Selwood, Nicole Esplin and Chantal Mahoney. But it’s also present in the thousands of Aboriginal cave paintings and rock engravings that are present all through our valley.

Our little school is rich in history, it was established in 1873. The first school building erected in 1881 is today used as our students library.

Today, we have a vibrant community of 64 students grouped into three classrooms. Our Finchley class, K-1 has 21 students, our Yengo class, years 2 & 3 has 20 students and our Warrawalong class, years 4, 5 & 6 has 23 students.

One of our challenges at the school is ensuring we are able to provide the very best resources for our little faces, with the financial resources the State Government provides.

One of our long term goals is to instate a permanent school hall for our students. At the moment we use a community built and managed hall just outside our school grounds. Even though it is a wonderful space for a plethora of activities, it is time-consuming for the students and teachers to set up activities at the beginning and end of the class. The net result means half of the lesson is transporting things to and from the hall, instead of using the time for the actual class.

One of the ambitions of Little Faces. Big Future. is to provide a lockable hall for our little faces. In a way this is a call out to anyone who knows of a demountable school hall that could be donated to our little school.

Take a tour of our valley…
